Trying
to describe this movie is pretty hard and I'll burn some of this space to
explore why it is complicated and to take a moment to write about writing
and the sense of what continuing to do this website means for me.
If there is anything I dislike in this
world is when writers gives away the story in the name of promoting movies.
I don't give up spoilers and my only desire is really to intrigue people
into going to see these films I speak on, not to tell you about them. Also
180 isn't really about reviews, I'll tell you a secret: 180 is just about
what I like and dislike.
So with all that told…It's a bitch trying to explain Hedwig And The Angry
Inch, cause everything about it is a joy to experience. I could compare
Hedwig to Velvet Goldmine, or The Rocky Horror Picture Show,
two movies, which are kin, in the sense that they are both strange, about
music and have powerful leads, but Hedwig while a musical and a fucked up
musical at that
would be
an
interesting and fun movie even if it didn't have anything to do with the
music. The characters are strong in this movie and the story itself is very
powerful, but I don't want to tell you about it, I'd be giving it away.
I will tell you, I did laugh a whole lot, I also at times felt mildly
uncomfortable, not in that "I don't like that" kinda way, but in
that way you feel when someone tells you a bunch of fucked up personal shit,
that they are past, but you have just heard. Then it's over. Such a good
strange little movie. |
